When you have finished designing your web page then it is
already to upload your web pages to your server.
Firstly, your have to rename your
home page to index.htm (it is actually much easier
if you name it at the begining of your work at the first time,
but if you haven't done so, do it now) so that when people
browse your web site by only typing your domain name, they
can get your home page immediately. If you do rename the home
page now, make sure you change all the links leading to the
index.htm file.
Also, check all other links, and make sure that they all
lead to a correct page. If one of them is spelt incorrectly,
your visitors mightn't be able to access a page.
Upload web site:
1)Type ftp://yourdomainname.netsky.biz
instead of http://yourdomainname.netsky.biz
in the Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2)When a login window appears, input your user name and passwords
then submit. If logining is successful, the window will display
all files and folders of the root directory on your server
otherwise you are asked to re-submit you use name and password.
3) To upload you files or folders you need to be upload,
you hightlight the files or folders on your computer then
click on the copy on the menu. After that, go to the window
displaying the server's files and folders and click on the
paste on the menu. It will start to upload the files from
your computer to your server.
4) The next job is to check your web site to see it work
properly or not. At this stage, most of errors come from incorrect
link. For example, a link points to a directory of your computer
rather than the directory on your server. Your root directory
in your server always start from / but it may incorrectly
start from D://directory/to/homepage.htm in your computer.
As a result, you need to remove D://directory/to in the file
of your server to let it work. A file like /index.htm or /index.html
should exist in your root directory. The index.htm or index.html
is your home page which then points to the rest of your web
site.
TIP: Use a folder on your computer to your web site
files and all it's images. When you have finished with a certain
page, delete all it's drafts. When uploading (copying your
web files and folders onto the Web), only copy the changed
pages and images, and delete unneeded pages and images in
your web regularly. This would not only save time and space
on your computer, it would also save the data transaction.
If you exceed your limit of 200MB upload data transaction,
you will have to pay an extra $20 per 100MB.
